What Is a Child?

When we parents decide to educate our child at home, our idea of what a child is becomes immediately evident:

If the child is an empty vessel, we plan to spend the next 12 years depositing in him the information society has determined will make him “educated”.

On the other hand, if the child is a unique “seedling”, we plan to spend the next several years providing a specialized, exclusively individualized, nurturing environment, tending to the child’s distinctively created personhood.

All homeschooling parents will choose one of these two roads based on their personal idea of what a child is.
