What follows will give you a sense of how colleges are reaching out to homeschooling families…
I just spent the weekend at Bryan College, a small, Christian college in Dayton, Tennessee. This beautiful campus is nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and has less than 700 students.
Bryan (and other colleges, I am sure), are offering an almost unheard-of opportunity for homeschoolers.
Bryan has created coursework for homeschooled high school students that will provide enough dual credit (high school + college) for a homeschooler to enter their college as a Junior. Imagine not having to pay for the first two years of your child’s college education because he will have already earned those two years of college credit!
And, if that isn’t enough…If the student receives his or her undergraduate degree from Bryan, and maintains at least a 3.8 grade point average, the college will cover the cost of that student’s entire Master’s Degree Program from Bryan College!
I recently had a conversation with a Dean at one of this country’s largest Christian Universities. The Dean said to me, “Homeschoolers are just different. You can tell them immediately from the rest of the students. They come to us with an idea of what they want to do and so they are simply more serious students.”
This should encourage every homeschooling parent out there! You are doing a fine job that is being recognized all over the Land!
